DESCRIPTION & BACKGROUND


Nelson was born in the wilderness between Milwaukee and Madison to parents who were on the run from what might have generously been called "the law". After his mother, Anna Stanfield, had gotten pregnant, Nelson's father, Richard Stanfield, was breaking into houses in Milwaukee to support his growing family. Richard broke into the wrong house one day and a posse was mobilized to chase him and Anna out of town. Nelson's mother died in childbirth and, despite much effort, Richard was unable to support his son. Nelson was abandoned in the woods with some old bread and a name tag at the age of 3. Luckily, some travelers found him within a day of his abandonment and nursed him back to health in a cabin in the woods just south of the Fox River Valley settlement. As he grew older, Nelson grew contemptuous of his adopted parents who were abusive alcoholics. At the age of 12 he ran away and has been traveling ever since. 17 years on the road have allowed Nelson to develop a lot of practical skills and he has become a jack-of-all-trades. He uses his diverse skill set to do odd jobs in whatever towns he may be passing through. When his work is done he travels to a new town. Nelson tends to keep to himself thinking that putting his head into other peoples' business only leads to trouble. However, he doesn't pass up the opportunity to make some quick money. Most of his cash goes to his room and board since he doesn't have a permanent residence.
